The vineyard is deeply rooted to the history and culture of the people in the geographic area of the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla. Of the 28 villages of the geographical area, the vineyard occupies more than 50% of its area.
In 1999, the Geographical Significance of Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla was approved by the Courts of Castilla-La Mancha in order to make wines only with grapes from that geographical area. The goal of this is for consumers to be able to identify the different wines like the Denomination of Origin wines or basic table wines. The Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla name was highly welcomed in the agricultural sector.
Initially, the production of the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla was 5,000,000 of liters, but after the geographic indication was recognized production increased to more than 126,000,000 liters in the years 2008-2009.
There are around 200 wineries, and there are more than 300 businesses that trade the wine. This market of wine has more than 600 brands.
