The vineyards, the land
The terroir and the climatic conditions in the area, nestled around the small village of Benegiles in Zamora, are the key for making a sustainable viticulture in an environmentally friendly way.
The plots are vinified separately, with various types of terroirs, calcareous clay soils as well as sandy and gravel ones, which give complexity to the wines.
The grapevines, because of its geographical location and the soils where they were planted in, they became resistant to phylloxera plague, which wiped out the vineyards of old Europe in the second half of the 19th century.
The authenticity of these vineyards together with a minimal intervention, the maximum respect for nature and the optimum expression of the terroir and the plant make it able to produce wines of remarkable elegance, resulting a long life and history of the different generations of Sotero Pintado, who have worked the land, fields… with calm, empathy and in a natural way.
Sustainable viticulture, natural and organic
approach, wines with an own identity
Winemaking and ageing, art and science
The winery is located in the providence of Zamora, in a beautiful enclave and near the River Duero as it passes through Zamora, the traditional vineyard area, however, at the present, only around a hundred old centuries vineyard survive, which provides excellent ¨Tinta fina¨ Tempranillo wines.
The singularity of these pre-phylloxera wines, with a low yield, contribute a high quality and a pleasant power, resulting premium singular wines.
Harvest made by hand, at dawn, in boxes of 15 kilos. The grapes are selected in the vineyard and once they reach the winery.
The vinification is carried out into individual plots, with an organic approach, native yeast fermentation and 20-25 days maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels and ageing periods between 10 and 18 months in French oak 225 and 500-litre barrels.
The result is wines of extraordinary quality and a marked personality, modern style, yet with traditional roots as signs of its own identity. Tasty, intense, spicy, with notes of ripe fruit, sometimes candied, ripe tannins, balanced acidity and great elegance.
The vineyard is located at an altitude of 700 and 800 metres in an idyllic enclave. Grapevines handed down from their forefathers, which Sotero Pintado has known how to respect and take care of them to offer us his best wines, an accurate reflection of his passion for vineyards and his intuition on the elaboration. New generations keep working hardly and an ecological approach to obtain exceptional wines.
